"Well it's Ninth and Hennepin
All the doughnuts have names that sound like prostitutes
And the moon's teeth marks are on the sky
Like a tarp thrown all over this
And the broken umbrellas like dead birds
And the steam comes out of the grill
Like the whole damn town's ready to blow...
And the bricks are all scarred with jailhouse tattoos
And everyone is behaving like dogs
And all the rooms they smell like diesel
And you take on the dreams of the ones who have slept here
And I'm lost in the window, and I hide in the stairway
And I hang in the curtain, and I sleep in your hat...
And no one brings anything small into a bar around here
They all started out with bad directions
And the girl behind the counter has a tattooed tear
One for every year he's away, she said
Such a crumbling beauty, ah
There's nothing wrong with her that a hundred dollars won't fix
She has that razor sadness that only gets worse
And the clock ticks out like a dripping faucet
til you're full of rag water and bitters and blue ruin
And you spill out over the side to anyone who will listen...
And I've seen it all, I've seen it all
Through the yellow windows of the evening train... " -Tom Waits

The World... Emeva

The Black Skies world and lore is based off of a work in progress novel, titled Epiphany written by Andrew Bunk(Me). I created this fantasy/steampunk world for my novel and the world in which it is set seems very distinct but also rather familiar.

It is a world of steam and technology, and no longer do boats roam the seas but now steam airships fly above the continents that stand miles above what used to be oceans. Giant gaps of abyss stand between the different continents and no one knows what is down there--the reigning government forbids going down. This government --Emeva--is the also name of this new world and the government that controls it. Emeva is controlled by an all powerful emperor named Ferdka who reigns from the capital of Emeva at the center of this world. All is not well in the world though, various religious resistance continue to rise up throughout Emeva. Ferdka isn't the nicest of emperors and has destroyed all of what left we had of our history. He has outlawed the arts including music and painting. Something just doesn't seem right in this world, although many live contented lives unaware of many secret things.

There are six main regions in Emeva:

Emeva

As well as the name of the government this is also the capital and central island. A humongous city-island, Emeva is the hub of activity and basically this world's New York City. There are various different districts and parts of Emeva, much of which is closed off to the general public. Many ships come in and out of Emeva every day, it also has a huge port and harbor. Emeva also has an adjacent island about half the size with a very large port city named Joari.

Roshrimmar

Roshrimmar is a large continent to the far northeast that has brutal cold temperatures and wastelands at its northern point, but moderate temperatures and farms at the southern point. The biggest of the continents, it is populated very sparsely by a brazen and tough people who have withstood the cold.

Eui Isles

To the northwest is an island chain called the Eui Isles. These temperate climate islands are full of festive sea faring people and home to the Avrath race of humanoid bird-people. There are said to be over 1000+ islands.

Acrifa

In the southwest is the tribal continent of Acrifa, which is home to darker-skinned humans with great strength and resilience. Much of this continent is unexplored and desert.

Creatora Isles

To the east is the Creatora Isles which are home to some volcanic activity and a people with traditional and animistic background.

Velshia

Velshia is to the southeast is home to a very traditional people with much of an isolationist policy. It has a lot farmland and mountainous areas for farming and precious metals. Honor is placed on the highest priority in this continent and reputation of families is huge.

This is a brief overview of the world, and in our game and book these places will be explored in great detail.

Introducing... The Medic

The Medic

Primary Ability: Will
Secondary Ability: Agility

In a world of flourishing technological advancements, medical discoverys are no exception. From a local doctor, to a battlefield medic, these healers can be found all over. Dangerous new weaponry and the wounds that follow thereafter make those with medicinal knowledge valued. Introducing... The War Engine

The War Engine

Primary Ability: Fight
Secondary Ability: Tech
Race Restrictions: Avrath
The most terrifying thing to find on a battlefield isn't a fortified gun emplacement or a line of professional soldiers, it's you. With a metal hull and locomotive heart attacks are shrugged off and foes are smashed into toothpaste. Sure they may be among the slowest in your group and have the social graces of a fire hydrant, but did you really think they came to talk? War Engines invoke fear, clear paths and absorb hits. Any weapons they use are likely a part of their body and are susceptible to upgrades. When they odds seem to tilt out of the party's favor, a War Engine can make all the difference.

Introducing... The Soldier

The Soldier

Primary Ability: Fight
Secondary Ability: Agility

What the soldier lacks in his/her ability to withstand attacks he/she is able to make up for with speed and precision. Rather that shrugging off blows, the soldier seeks to parry and counter. Tactical decisions and teamwork is the soldiers best friend. If this profession had to be described with one word it would be versatile. Sure, the soldier may not be able to absorb a volley of gunfire or pick off targets at incredible distances, but when moments go from push to shove, flexibility counts.

All Aboard!

Welcome to the Black Skies Production Blog!
Black Skies is a custom board game utilizing elements from several other works in order to tell a steam powered story. Although the task seemed a bit daunting at first, the end product is just far too appealing to quit now. This blog will keep visitors up to date on the fauna and flora of the world, professions, places, people and more! Any and all ideas that may increase the fun factor of the game is readily welcome as is any constructive criticism providing it is relevant to the fantasy setting. I believe I'll begin this journey by showcasing some of the professions (Classes) the game will have to offer. Though powers and whatnot will be listed, only a few will have a description until there is a more definite decision on what they'll do exactly. (For balance purposes) Looking forward to your ideas and feedback -Professor Furious
